Campus Wellness Referendum

It is proposed to conduct renovations to the Campus Recreation Center on City Campus and to build a new Recreation Center on East Campus, and a new University Health Center on City Campus.  The City Campus Recreation Center renovations will include expanding the cardiovascular, strength and fitness training area by approximately 3,000 square feet.  The East Campus Recreation Center building would be constructed in the location of the current East Campus Activities Building and would likely contain a 2-court gymnasium, the Outdoor Adventures program, an elevated jogging track, cardiovascular equipment, strength training and fitness area, multi-purpose room, and climbing wall.  The Health Center would be constructed to the north, in the parking lot, of the current building.  The parking would be replaced after the construction was complete.  The 60,000 square foot Health Center would likely contain a medical clinic, specialty clinics, health education department, immunization/travel, pharmacy, laboratory, radiology, physical therapy, counseling and psychological services, and dental clinic.

1. Do you support the proposed renovations to the Campus Recreation Center on City Campus and the construction of a new Recreation Center on East Campus and a new Health Center on City Campus?  The proposed projects would be funded by bonds.

   Yes/No

2. Because the state legislature does not fund student life buildings, and the Campus Recreation Centers and University Health Center are financed through mandatory student fees, do you support increasing student fees by approximately $80 per student per semester to repay the bonds that would be issued to finance the construction of these projects?

   Yes/No

The need to renovate or construct new student life buildings is assessed by ASUN and presented to students in the form of a student fee referendum.   The outcome of the referendum becomes the official student opinion on the matter and is communicated to the Chancellor, the President, and the Board of Regents, who are ultimately responsible for deciding whether and how to proceed.
