What is Homecoming?

Homecoming at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln is a long-standing tradition and has been celebrated by present students and past students for many years. Overtime, Homecoming has become a way for students, parents and alumni on campus to work together to show their love and appreciation for the university and show off their Husker pride. Homecoming is spread out over a week and is full of exciting events including a campus wide 5k run, a parade, a campus-wide blood drive, pep rally and jester competition and a homecoming concert. The week leads up to the Homecoming football game. Students from many organizations on campus work throughout the week to gain points homecoming to take home the gold for Homecoming week. They compete in a Huskers Have Talent competition, create banners and yard displays and even create floats that you’ll see walking the streets of campus during the parade.

What is the theme?

It is with great pleasure that we welcome and invite you to the University of Nebraska– Lincoln 2017 Homecoming! When selecting the theme for 2017, we wanted to have something that allowed participants to show their spirit throughout the Homecoming Competition, as well as a theme that encompassed being mindful of materials that are used and celebrating the tradition we see Homecoming to be at UNL. With that in mind, the 2017 Homecoming theme is 150 Years of Statehood.

How do Points Work?

To qualify for any of the Homecoming events, your organization must complete all the required forms for each event. Only officially Recognized Student Organizations (RSO’s), Greek Chapters and Residence Halls (floors/complexes) may participate in Homecoming competition events. There are four divisions of competition: residence hall complex, fraternities, sororities and student organizations. Students can earn participation and attendance points for one or more groups that they are competing under for each event. The Homecoming Steering Committee will award a Divisional Homecoming Champion Trophy to the group that scores the most points during the week through event participation in their division. Point accumulation from events will determine the champions. Participation points will only apply toward organizations that do not place in the competition. Students must have their N-card to receive attendance to collect points for various Homecoming events. Please see the “2017 Homecoming Packet” and all entry forms for more details.
