As of June 2020, sexual orientation and gender identity are protected classes under federal law. The city of Omaha and several of Nebraska’s neighboring states including Colorado, Kansas, Missouri and Iowa also offer some statutory level of protection. If you believe that you have been discriminated against in employment based on your sexual orientation or gender identity, you should contact an attorney.
You may find UNL's Gender and Sexuality Center of use if you are facing discrimination based on sexual orientation. Their LGBTQA+ Resource Guide is available here.
