Environmental Leadership Program

A passionate group of students who work year-round to create sustainable change on campus.

Each year, ELP members plan and organize events that promote a culture of life-long sustainability; experience leadership development; gain education on environmental issues; and participate in aspects of student government such as grant and policy writing.

First-year and second-year UNL students enrolled for the 2025 Fall Semester are eligible to apply.

Timeline

  • May 27, 2025  |  Application open

  • Sept 10, 2025  |  Application closes at 4 p.m.

  • Mid-September  |  Notification date for interviews
    (Each applicant will receive an email informing them whether or not they have been selected for an interview.)


Requirements

  • Applicant must be a first-year or second-year student.

  • Resume - you will be prompted to upload a current resume in PDF format. (Include your First and Last Name in the file name.)

  • Essay Questions - there are a series of short-answer and essay questions.

  • Grade Release for second-year students.

  • Build connections with environmental leadership groups, including the Office of Sustainability and other sustainability-focused RSOs.
  • Gain education on current environmental issues.
  • Explore opportunities for further involvement with ASUN.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of large-scale sustainability programs.
  • Develop leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Learn advocacy strategies at the university, local, and state levels.
