If your property has been damaged or destroyed as a result of the crime or you have suffered injury requiring medical attention, the perpetrator of the crime may be required to pay restitution and reimburse you. You should discuss the possibility of restitution with the prosecutor handling your case.
Sometimes perpetrators will be required to pay restitution to the victim as part of probation requirements. If the perpetrator is sentenced to jail, restitution may not be part of the sentence ordered by the court.
